Last year a lot of young business minded Nigerians were very optimistic about the YOUWIN 4 Business Plan Competition of the then Goodluck Jonathan administaration, but to ther dismay the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as our new president soon followed with the bad news of YOUWIN being scraped, it was really not a nice time for those who had taken time to fill the laborious application forms for the YOUWIN 4 Business Plan Competition.
CHANGE! CHANGE! CHANGE! Was the shout all over the country and personally I believe, that we all need a change in the way we do things as young Nigerians. I've personally always said that YOUWIN was a good idea but the grant method of financing was not a good idea as the businesses set up cannot be monitored for progress over time if there is no payback of at least the principal sum without interest to ensure continuity of the program and ensure the existence of these businesses after 3-5 years which is the lifespan of SME's as stated by the Nigerian Government.
Well Glory be to the most high God who makes all things beautiful in His time the Muhammadu Buhari administration, through the Bank of Industry, on Thursday the 17th of March formally launched a N10 billion Youths Entrepreneurship Support (YES) project to empower youth with loans to start businesses.
Participants will be drawn from young aspiring entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35 years, with innovative ideas who must have a minimum educational qualification of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
